June's Post-Mortis

Hello, howdy, and welcome. My name is June, and I did the music for The Case of Elias Granger.

I put in a total of 20ish hours on the project, making music. The music you hear in this project changes as the mood of the person being interrogated changes; however, instead of completely different tracks for each emotion, we decided upon an instrument system that adds and drops instruments to the piece as the emotion values change. This system of music was completely different from anything I had ever done before. I wanted to emphasize the player's sense of vulnerability through the music while also giving them audio cues that, once figured out, encourage them to use their ears to understand the killer; to achieve this, the piece is written in 11/4 time. This time signature allows the piece to seem off-kilter while not seeming too repetitive. The goal of the music is to set a foundation for the player to latch on to; however, once they are latched on, it reveals itself to be shaky too late.

There wasn't much struggle for me during this project as much as there was not much of a vision for my role. I didn't contribute as many hours to the project as many others, such as our coders and artists; however, THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. My biggest takeaway is that not every piece you work on can be a 10/10, and not every project will require your talent as much as others. If we choose a horror-based rhythm game, I would've had to put in upwards of 80-100 hours; that just wasn't the case for this project, though, and that is fine. Next project I work on, I want to fight for myself to get a little bit more of my hands on the process.

Overall, this project was still a massive success. I got to learn a new style of making music and stretch my boundaries as a composer by using a wacky time signature. I am impressed with how I managed to make the music feel weird, ominous, and strange, yet still something the player can rely on.  I am also incredibly proud of this team and the work everyone managed to do in such a short time.

HUGE shout out to EVERYONE on this project, and I look forward to working with everyone in the future.
